Dawn of Lotus 5Isawa Letomo

This short article will cover the almost unused [to my experience] Enmity. Enmity is an action card from Dawn of the Empire that costs nothing, and has a focus of 4. As a limited action, target a personality of your's and one controled by another player. Until your personality leaves play, the other one gains +2C in duels against your personality. Why use it at all? It also gives you 4 additional honour the first time you defeat that personality in a duel.

Still, even with the honour gain, why use this card? First, it is 4 focus. Since it is obviously intended for a duel deck, this is important in edging a card over from marginal to useful, sometimes.

Second, right now, in Diamond, there is little other reason to use it, unless you are bully dueling with a high chi personality, or with Kakita or Mirumoto. As a side note, those two ignore the +2 chi, since they reset to the other personality's chi.

In Lotus, however, it is a little different. With the duelist trait, which lets you focus first against higher chi personalities, this can be very useful. If you challenge someone with lower chi, Duelis does not go off, and there are some cards you desparately want to focus with. Enmity can allow you to get the duelist trait to go off.

And though Phoenix are not a huge dueling clan, we do have one non-nique and one unique duelist, and will get another non-unique in Lotus. Not bad, and it lets us look at a dueling deck of some sort.

Enmity also means you can use the Duelist trait effect with 5 chi personalities, since you can raise the opposing personality's chi to equal or higher than yours. It may seem silly, but there are reasons to do so, such as focusing a card that lets you draw cards, or gain honour. And then your opponent is more likely to focus than to say strike as soon as possible.

Just a few thoughts on this oft-ignored card. Hope you look at it when next you make a deck.
