Isawa Jun is one of the more mystical Phoenix personality cards. A powerful Earth shugenja, she is constantly surrounded by kami eager to do her bidding.
Isawa Jun2F, 5C6HR, 9GC, 2PH Phoenix Clan Earth Shugenja When bringing Jun into play, you may permanently reduce her chi by 2 to lower her Gold Cost by 2. When Jun enters play, you may place a 1F nonhuman spirit Follower token on one of your Personalities. If this token is attached to a Samurai, it is 2F instead. When I first saw Jun, I saw all the bad stuff. 9G for 2/5, no ability, etc. However, she's actually one of the better Personalities we have. Normally 4F, you can bring her into play for 5G (7G with honour). I prefer to think of her as a 2/3 for 7G, with the option to pay 2 more gold for +2 chi! Jun also provides synergy with several other strong cards - most notably Peasant Vengeance and Shrine to Fukurokujin (which checks printed chi). She's exactly what Phoenix decks need: a high-force personality to see us through the mid-game. She also has the Earth trait, so counts towards cards like Strength in Numbers. However, her 2PH isn't amazing for honour running, and she really belongs in a switch deck. Her other minor drawback is that if you use Morning Glory Castle to bring her out a second time, reducing her chi by 2 leaves her at 1C. And if you do it a third time, you have to buy her for full or she dies as soon as entering play! Of course, you still get the Follower tokens and honour for her, so it's not the end of the world. |
