The Soul of Asako Oyo, possibly the most insane Phoenix to ever walk the surface of Rokugan (and that's quite a claim!) Naokazu seems to be more than a little insane as well. Mind you, we have only his card to go by, since as yet he hasn't featured in any fictions!

If it is a spell, you may bow Naokazu, then attach it to him without Gold cost. Hm. An ability that's alright in isolation and becomes powerful when combined with other cards (like Shrine to Fukurokujin, and Asako Shiwasu), slightly weak stats and a below-starting honour requirement, Naokazu is just about playable in a spell-heavy deck. It's unclear whether Naokazu's ability works off the City of Rememberance - he doesn't bow as a cost of using his ability (it's an effect), so it seems likely that the CoR text doesn't apply to him. It's pretty academic anyway, since no CoR deck is likely to play enough spells to make Naokazu worthwhile. I've never played Naokazu in a deck, though I have seen one or two deck running him. It's my impression that he doesn't really add enough to justify his cost, especially given how many cheaper shugenja the Phoenix have. I guess the deck type that could use him most might have problems with his honour requirement. |
