Yubisaki was an advance scout in the Phoenix-Dragon war, his close relation to the Dragon Clan and his proficiency with stealth magic making him an ideal scout. Of course, he did not neglect his studies of Fire magic, either... His card is right at the top of my "ones to watch" list, with Hidden City quite possibly turning him from coaster to useful personality. Time will tell...

Phoenix Clan Shugenja
Open: Bow Yubisaki to straighten a Samurai.

Why doesn't Yubisaki see play? The main reason is his honour requirement. In a Clan who never lack for strong personalities with honour requirements above starting, it's hard to find room for a marginal guy like Yubisaki. On the face of it, honour players will choose both Isawa Toshiji and Ryokuo before him - as well as Shiba Ningen experienced, and a Shiba Mirabu or two. Military players will prefer Isawa Yoriko, with her boxable 3F, and probably won't want to run as many guys with honour requirements to avoid having to gain honour for their deck to work.

So, a coaster? Currently, yes. However, there is reason to think that he might be seeing the inside of a card protector soon. Hidden City, the next set, will apparantly focus on Samurai and Bushi, providing plenty of actions for them to perform. The Phoenix will also be getting Kaneka as a personality, and possibly Shiba Aikune experienced 2 as well. With more decent Phoenix samurai alongside Tsukimi and Danjiro, and more actions for samurai to perform (some of which will doubtless involve bowing), Yubisaki can only get stronger. Also, the Diamond environment (being much heavier on battle actions) contains a lot of things that bow people. One of the more popular ones is Overconfidence - which happens to hit Shiba Tsukimi particularly hard. By straightening your Samurai, Yubisaki may be an effective meta choice against targeted bowing actions... but that honour requirement is really going to make it hard to fit him in a deck.
