Isawa Wazuka is one of the uncommon Phoenix clan Shugenja from Winds of
Change. She has 1F, 4C, and 2PH. You need 4FH and 7GC to play her. This
makes her fairly average as far as her stats go. Her ability is
"Elemental Water Open: Bow Wazuka to move any number of Items, Spells,
and Followers from one of your unbowed personalities to another."
How is this ability useful? In several ways, in my opinion. First, and
most basically, it allows you to bow just one personality instead of 2.
And, it doesn't have to be one of the ones involved. However, this takes
no imagination.
One point to note is that the ability is an Open. This means that you can
put items into play on one personality, when you want them attached to
another that is sitting in one of your provinces. Then, once the
personality is in play, on your opponent's turn, move them to the
personality you want. Unless your opponent can kill one of the two
personalities in one action, you can usually get away with this.
Next, there is the fact that not only is the action elemental, it is a
specific elemental action. While this is not important in Diamond at
present, it is in Open. The event Master of Five requires an elemental
action from each of the 5 elements. Wazuka's ability is both from a
specific element, water, and is Open, so it can be used for this event.
Another item to consider with personality is that she does have 4C. This
is not terrible for a 7 gold cost personality. In Gold, one of Phoenix's
problems was low chi for their shugenja. This is one of the turn-arounds
from that. While not great, it is a definite step in the right direction.
