Rememberer's Stick [RS] is an uncommon item from Web of Lies. It
provides +1F for 2 gold, with a focus of 3. As an ability, it says that
if the holder is destroyed, you can transfer it to another Ratling
personality. Clearly this item is only fr Ratlings, then, right? Not so
fast. It also has two significent traits, or rather one trait, and one
lack of a trait. The trait it is lacking is "weapon", which means you
can stack multiple copies of these on one personality, or give them to a
personality with a weapon already attached.
The other trait, and the one that makes this interesting, says "After
each time an action is taken by another player while this card is in the
current battle, give this card +1F until the battle ends." Thus, you are
not paying for +1F, you are paying +1F plus 1 for each action your
opponent takes. This may not be much, but it can be significant. Some
battles, it will end up quite big, others it will barely grow at all.
So, why include a card with a variable force boost? Several reasons.
First, It is a guaranteed +1F. This is not great, but it is not bad,
especially as it does not conflict with weapons. Second, it may not be
guaranteed, but it is potential. The more your opponent does, the
stronger the item becomes. Thus, your opponent must think more carefully
before taking any actions.
This does, as a negative, make the person who uses it a bit more of a
target. This can be used to your advantage. Attach it not to your big
guy, but to a medium sized one, making your opponent have to make a
choice. Take out the big unit, and wait for the smaller one to get
larger as a result. Or, take out the currently smaller unit, and let the
big one through.
A second warning about this item. It specifically states that it only
works while in the battle, and the bonus does not last. Thus, it resets
each battle, and does not gain anything if at home. Good if you tend to
get in there and slug it out, bad if you prefer to use movement tricks.
Not much of an article, but it is more to highlight an item I see
potential in than others might. Or, you might see the potential. And as
a closing thought, consider this with Akodo Ieshige. Every action boosts
that unit +2F!
