Beiden Shadows

This region is an interesting defensive one. It is not like Sorrow's Path, having an effect at the battle, no matter what, but is more interactive, and more interesting, at least in my opinion. Any unit sent home from the battle at one of your provinces may not move into any more battles for the rest of the turn.

This card is good for defenders, as it means you know that sending a unit home means he will stay there. No Tireless Assualting for him. No Strategic Crossroads. No means of re-entering the battles. Straight forward, yes? So why write an article about it?

First, a warning that many may miss on first reading. ANY units sent home. If he manages to send one of your units home, you are also out of luck. This region could reach up and bite you back. Unlikely, perhaps, but possible. Just something to keep in mind.

Next, note what it does not state. Yes, units sent home may not be moved back into battles, but it says nothing about assigning them. Huh? But the battle assignment already occured. Yes, but with Retribution, especially Retribution wars [which I myself have participated in], you can assign that unit that got sent home back to the front. Just something to remember.

Second, it only speaks of Units sent home. It says nothing of units sent to other provinces. Thus, moving between battles is still a viable tactic. Third, the unit must actually be sent home. Stop the unit from being sent home, and the region has no effect.

Because of these notes, I think it is most reasonable to assume that the province this region turns up in is going to become a target, so keep that in mind. After all, if that province is destroyed, the region is similiarly gone, no longer affecting the game.

Things to keep in mind when designing your next deck.

Samo adds: Anti-Tireless meta, basically. Not a card that I think will see much play - though there are some situations when it will be useful, and the global effect is nice, I think cards like Barbarian Wall, Refuge of the Three Sisters, Masume Mura and Sacred Grove are going to get your deck's region slots over this.

Letomo-san replied: I find, after a second look, that I agree with Shiba Samoshii. This region may see play in Sealed, but is substandard for fixed decks, other than maybe some trick decks.
