Ride the Way is a common kiho from Reign of Blood. This battle Kiho
says to bow one of your shugenjas or monks to send the caster and up to
one opposing personality home from the battle without bowing. Like most
kihos it has a gold cost of 0, and a focus of 2.
Unlike several of the spell and kihos from Reign of Blood, this one is
not a maho action. It is instead an Elemental Air kiho. Thus, it will
count as an Air, Elemental, Kiho, and Battle action. Also, a spell
effect.
So, another send home. What is the big deal? First, this is the first
send home kiho that allowed your caster to leave the battle. All the
others left the caster in the battle, leaving him or her vulnerable.
This one lets him go home, to fight again another turn. This alone makes
the kiho more interesting. Another point to consider is that there are
no restrictions on whom you can send home, unlike some of the other send
home kihos.
This kiho allows you to defend with one blocker, send home their biggest
attacker, and still have your personality the next turn. A chump block
that saves your personality. Always a good thing.
This kiho also says that you can send up to one opposing personality
home without bowing. The key word for me here is "up to". This means
you don't have to send any of their personalities home. It can allow you
to save one of your personalities if a battle turns south on you, and
still leave all of the opposing personalities to be bowed at the end of
the battle. Better yet, use Suspended Terrain, then send your guy back
home. Lots of fun! Bet your opponent wouldn't expect that!
Hope this helps those out there using kihos!
Samoshii adds: While sending one of your guys home can be an advantage, it can also be a disadvantage. I often find that I'm short of personalities to use actions - like To Do What We Must and Overwhelmed - and pack send-home because it allows me to perform more actions than the number of personalities I control in the battle. However, importantly this kiho can be used on the offense - when an opponent running Kaneka probably won't be able to cancel it - and allows you to knock out a large or annoying defending unit by removing a Seruma or similar from the battle. I suspect that this card is more useful for military and switch decks than for pure defensive decks.
