What you want is consistency, to be able to buy what you want with no "left overs"
The Phoenix Stronghold produces 4 gold so holdings that cost 5G or more should be ignored(for now).

  • 4 gold holdings. They are OK but they require you to bow two hodlings or your stronghold, for that reason 3 should be be your limit. 3 Sanctified Temples for honor runners or 3 Hiruma dojo if your military deck has at least 10 samurai.
  • 3 gold holdings. While 3 gold might seem tempting think about the fact that most holdings produce 2 gold and that your stronghold produces 4. Some holdings do produce 3 gold, the few who does(Silver mine and Shrine to Daikuko)aren`t enough to give your deck a nice steady flow. Again try not to have more then 3 in your deck.
  • 2 gold holdings. Finally the 2 gold holding that produces 2 gold. These should be the core of your economy. Consider this; First turn "gifts and favors", second turn two 4 or 3 gold holdings shows up. You`ve lost half a turn turn. If you want to have a good flow you need those affordable 2 gold holdings.
  • 1 Gold holding. These should not be considered part of your gold flow. They produce too little to count on them.

    Consider these gold schemes;

    Military
    3x Silver Mine: Your basic clan holding.
    3x Barley Farm: 2 gold prodution for 2 gold, it`s ability to produce 1 gold two times is really nice and it may produce 1 gold on your turn and 2 on your opponents turn too.
    1x Shrine to Daikoku: 2 gold for 3 gold production, try and get your hand on one, or two!
    1x Shrine to Bishamon: A great and cheap way to gain a force boost
    2x Talented Apprentice: A good holding with potential but again putting three in the deck might be over doing it.
    2x Hiruma Dojo: While 4g for a potential 4 golg production is really good, a Phoenix military deck tends to use many Shugenja.
    1x Gifts and Favors: You don`t want to get no gold, this holding is key! Try and bring it firsst turn and buy 2 holdings on turn 2 for a great economie.
    1x *Wind hodling*: Kaneka`s ability to flip a dynastly card and Sezaru`s ability to redraw discarded cards are really worth it.
    1x Phoenix Library: A nice security blanket, if ever you need a new fate hand. 2 gold production for 2 really makes your deck run smoothly.
    1x Crystal Mine: For 3 gold you get to bow a holding for 6 gold production. If you bow Barley Farm with it it`ll produce 7 gold.

    *Other Holding to Consider;
    Akodo`s Grave: a nice 2 for 2 holding with a good ability.
    Horsemaster: If you run many spells and a few movement trick this hodling might be really worth it, unfortunatly it`s unique so you can`t count on it.
    Shrine to Ebisu: If you don`t run maybe 4 gold holding a of these might be a good idea, make you to not over cost you gold scheme!
    Shrine to Fukurokujin: Remember it checks for printed Chi, so even if you buy Jun for cheap she can still bow for that extra card.

    Hidden City addition(s):
    A Favor Returned: Should be in all decks, military, control, honour, don`t leave home without it!
    Hasty Barricades: Ok it`s not a gold holding but a free Fortification that protects your province and speeds up your deck can`t be wrong in any deck.
    Battlefield Messanger: 2 for 2 with a good ability if you run Retribution.

    Honour
    2x Barley Farm: 2 gold prodution for 2 gold, it`s ability to produce 1 gold two times is really nice and it may produce 1 gold on your turn and 2 on your opponents turn too.
    1x Crystal Mine: For 3 gold you get to bow a holding for 6 gold production. If you bow Barley Farm with it it`ll produce 7 gold.
    1x Gifts and Favors: You don`t want to get no gold, this holding is key! Try and bring it firsst turn and buy 2 holdings on turn 2 for a great economie.
    1x Noh Theater Troupe: An other 3 gold holding. It produces 2 honour most of the time but can be unreliable.
    2x Personal Librarian: For 2 gold it`s ability to redraw your fate hand is good when your inn trouble or even to just get rid of unwanted cards
    1x Phoenix Library: 3 gold for a 2 gold production holding that gives you and extra card as a reaction, wonderful card for anyone using spells.
    2x Sanctified Temple: For 4 gold you may bow it and an other holding(that makes 2 gold or more) for 2 honour. While 2 honour is great, it`s cost might be a little stip. Use 3 with caution.
    1x Shrine to Daikoku: 2 gold for 3 gold production, try and get your hand on one, or two!
    3x Silver Mine: The clan`s holding, an easy pick.
    2x Sycophant: If you don`t use "Importune Kami"(IK) then change this holding for something else, but with IK it has huge potential!
    2x Talented Apprentice: Again a good holding with potential but again putting three in the deck might be over doing it, if you don`t run IK then discard the sycophant and add 1 barely farm and 1 talented apprentice.

    *Other Holding to Consider;
    Shrine to Fukurokujin: Frankly if you`ve got one you should try and and fit one one in. Bow Naokazu to check you fate most card to make sure you have enough Chi.
    Akodo`s Grave: a nice 2 for 2 holding with a good ability.
    Devout Acolyte: If you really want to run 3 Sanctified temples then these might help you pay the bills.

    Hidden City addition(s):
    A favor Returned: It should simply be in every decks.
    Well-Tended Farm: If you have an extra space in your deck, don`t count on these to boost your economy.
    Shrine of Courage: Exellent card for dueling decks, the Phoenix do have more Double chi personalities then the Crane and our personality`s Chi is very high on average.
